June Presidents Letter New Soccer Complex talking points

Congratulations!!!  U12 Boys Win State Cup
The Florence Fusion Boys U12 Select Soccer Team won the South Carolina State Cup at BB&T fields in Columbia.  After placing first in their preliminary flight, the Fusion defeated the Columbia United Blue in the semifinals.  Despite being down 1-2 in the second half, the Fusion came back to post a 3-2 win in a very physical contest.  They started out strong in the first half of the championship game against the Congaree Rapid (Columbia) gaining a 3-0 lead and holding on for a 3-1 win.  The fusion also won the Can-Am Cup in Myrtle beach in March against teams from North and South Carolina.

FSA President

The school year is over and everyone is looking forward to a long relaxing summer. The volunteers of the Florence Soccer Association have been busy with Select soccer tryouts and organizing the select teams. All Select Soccer fees are due to FSA by July 1st so that teams can be registered with SCYSA by July 15th. There are still openings in all girls’ age groups and for Boys U10/11 and U18. If you are interested in trying out for one of the available age group, then contact Select Commissioner Robert Williams. See the Select pages for select soccer information.

The association is also busy preparing for the fall recreation season. Recreation registration runs from July 20th through August 14th and the season will begin with the Jamboree on September 12th. See the Recreation pages for more information.

We are excited to have Francis Marion University Women’s Soccer Coach Joel Person as our  Director of Coaching for the fall 2009 / spring 2010 seasons. There is an exciting initiative to develop a tournament level soccer complex in Florence. See the June President’s Letter and talking points documents for more information about these topics.

If you have any questions feel free to contact any board member or come to one of our regular board meetings the first Monday of every month at 6:30 PM at the Florence County Parks and Recreation Building at 112 W. Laurel St.

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing summer.

Steve Bull
